Abstract

The article discusses the use of statistical methodologies in the legal field, highlighting how statistics contribute to quantitative reasoning in legal proceedings and support more objective decision-making. Initially, it explores the historical context and relevance of applying statistics in law, particularly in cases requiring evidence analysis and damage quantification. The text presents common statistical techniques, such as linear regression, logistic regression, time series analysis, and hypothesis testing, and examines their use in various areas of law, including criminal, civil, and labor law. Furthermore, it considers the ethical, technical, and interpretive challenges and limitations, recommending that legal professionals be trained to properly understand quantitative tools. The analysis concludes that while statistics offer powerful tools, their application in law requires an ethical and critical commitment to ensure fair and impartial decisions.
